Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens was first established in Hong Kong park in 1871.

Mr. Charlie Amersfoort  was appointed as the park's first garden supervision in 1871. As the park site in 1841 to 1842 was used as a residence of the governor, therefore, many people still called Zoological and Botanical Gardens as "soldiers head Gardens"

It has started feeding wild animals for exhibition since 1876, with very few original buildings breeding birds and mammals, purely for visitors to watch.  It promote the conservation and green concept to the people,

SPD4459 Destination - Man Mo Temple (文武廟)

Today, Piggie will bring you guys to visit a historical destination in Central and Western District~ It is Man Mo Temple. Do you know why Hong Kong people should go there? And why have this temple? Let me introduce to all of you^^

The outlook of Man Mo Temple

In 1908, the temple was officially entrusted to the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. It was listed as a Grade I historic building in 2009 and is preserved as a Declared Monument.

The Man Mo Temple is a picturesque tribute to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo), both of whom were worshipped by ambitious students looking to succeed in the civil examinations of Imperial China. These involved rigorous systems aimed at finding the best administrative officials for the state.

Man Mo Temple was built in 1987, this remains the largest Man Mo temple in Hong Kong. To pause for a moment's respite under its giant hanging incense coils makes for a pleasant contrast with the hectic pace of the nearby financial district.

You can go there by:

w   Bus 26 outside Pacific Place at Admiralty to Hollywood Road and get off near Man Mo Temple.

w   MTR Central Station Exit D2 and turn right to Theatre Lane. Walk along Queen's Road Central towards The Center. Then take the Central - Mid-Levels Escalator to Hollywood Road.

w   MTR Sheung Wan Station Exit A2 then walk along Hillier Street to Queen's Road Central. Then proceed up Ladder Street (next to Lok Ku Road) to Hollywood Road to the Man Mo Temple.

SPD4459 Destination - Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park (孫中山紀念公園)

Hello ! First of all, let me show you a picture ! ! ! !

Do you believe that if I told you this place is located in the urban area??

Today let me take you to visit a picturesque place. This is Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park, which is located in Sai Ying Pun.

It faces to Victoria Harbour and you can see the night view of the harbour !

It is the only park in Hong Kong to be named for a Chinese historic figure, because Shue Yat sen lived in Central and Western District. 

The footprints of Sun Yat Sen was recorded on the ground in the park, because he lived in the district for a long period of time. He was a student of Queen's College and the University of Hong Kong. 

The most unbelieveable thing is I have ever seen a big piece of grassland was located in the crowded urban area ! ! ! It is a good place for having picnic and playing kite !! It is relaxing and you even can lay down on the grassland and look to the sky.

You can take Citybus route 5B,1

SPD4459 Destination - Sai Wan Pier, Kennedy Town (西環碼頭)

Is it attractive? Have you ever seen the beautiful sunset before?  Today let me introduce a nice place for you, the San Wan Pier. 

It is a Public Cargo Working Area along the coast of Sai Wan on Hong Kong Island. It is a very well known public space among local community in sai wan, the photographic community !

Also there is a corner called "The mirror of the sky(天空之鏡)", do you know why? 

Let's take a look of this photo and you will know what is the reason of being called this name.

Actually there is a large puddle of reflecting the sky. This place becomes a famous place for taking photos. 

However, you can only go there after it rains, otherwise you can't find the puddle ! !

The Sunset

Moreover, the pier becomes a sunset spot. Since there is no any buildings blocked the views, you can enjoy the sunset view of 360 degree ! ! !

Although privately owned, the owner allows 24-hour access without setting any rules.

This area has a great view of the Victoria Harbour, and a nice sunset . People who hang out here usually are the neighbourhood, couples, families, dog lovers and youngsters. They love spending their time here.

SPD4459 Destination - Sai Wan Swimming Shed (西環泳棚)

Let's go to swim before the weather is getting cold ! ! ! :D

Have you ever seen this place before? Lots people came here for taking their masterpiece and upload to the Instagram and Facebook !~ You can google 西環泳棚 and you can see more photos ~



This is Sai Wan Swimming Shed, which is located in Mount Davis. It built in the 70s as there was no any public swimming pools in the past. Therefore, people built a shed that is next to the sea, it is convenient for people to go swimming.
Nowadays, it becomes a popular place for photographers. The swimming shed, beacon and sunset views turned into the characters inside the photos.

It is easy to get there ! You can take Cityroute route 5B and get off at the last bus stop, then you can go to the oppositie of the street and walk down the stairs.

The bathroom and locker 浴室和儲物室

When you go down there, you will there are two blocks of houses in green color. They are the bathroom and lockers for people who go to swim.

SPD4459 Destinations - St John's Cathedral (聖約翰座堂)

Hello everybody!! This is Piggie again!  Today we are going to explore one of the classic cathedral in Hong Kong. Time to have a historical lesson with you all!

The St. John's Cathedral (聖約翰座堂), officially The Cathedral Church of St. John the Evangelist is located at 4 Garden Road, Central, which is an Anglican cathedral in Hong Kong. It is the Diocesan cathedral of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island and the focus of the Province of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (香港聖公會). It also the Archbishop of Hong Kong.

From the outside of the building, you can already see the building style of the English Gothic architecture. This style was flourished in England from about 1180 until about 1520. 

As you can see from the pictures below, The design is well known with its pointed arch(lancet) characteristic. Pointed arches were used almost universally, not only in arches of wide span such as those of the nave arcade, but also for doorways and lancet windows.

Meanwhile, the cathedral also held a lot of interesting event such as Cathedral Choir, Evensong Choir and sermons everyday and week. You will definately have a good time and relax you mind in the cathedral .

The cathedral would be a good place to chill in such a busy distrist and after the whole sightseeing day, aspecially for those who were obsessed of classical architecture and religious history.

SPD4459 Destinations - PMQ 元創坊 x 特色到喊既太平山街 Tai Ping Shan Street ! ! !

Hello ! This is Piggie again ! ! !

I visited PMQ 元創坊 in Central on last Saturday night. It was a police married quarters (已婚警察宿舍) for married junior police offiers, which was closed since 2000.

It is now being transform to a creative industries landmark called PMQ, therefore creating a platform in Hong Kong's creative industies.

PMQ includes 2 blocks of bulidings and a platform on ground floor. Those flats become studios and shops nowadays. Each of them are unique and artistic as they rent for artists from different countries. PMQ is a platform for artists to share their masterpiece and ideas with public.

PMQ holds myraids of programmes and events in every months. As I know that they are going to hold performance and gourment market in Halloween ! ! ! ! ! 好驚驚呀! ! So Scary ! !

By the way, when I went to PMQ on last Saturday, there was held an event called "Oktoberfest". It is a beer festival and people can taste differents types of beers and foods!

As you can see that the art works are meaningful and representable. Moreover, the organization did well in histroic preservation. You can still see lots of  heritage design in that building.

After that, I went to Tai Ping Shan street. It is differ from other places in Central. Lots of gallaries, boutiques and cafe are located in there. You may feel relax when you walked through the street as it has its own culure. The buildings on the both side of the street are in old architecture. However, the stores are trendy and fashionable. You can see that when the old buildings crossover with trendy culture and they match each other ! ! ! It is unbelieveable !好難觸摸呀!!

How to get there?

PMQ: 

You can go there by mtr, get off at Sheung Wan Station and find Exit E2. 

After that, you can walk along the Wellington Street and turn left of Aberdeen Street.

Walk through the street until you see PMQ on your right hand side

首先坐地鐵於上環E2出口上路面

然後沿威靈頓街向上行，再轉右

接上鴨巴甸街再向上行約5分鐘
