SPD4459 Destination - The University of Hong Kong (香港大學)

Hallo this is Piggie again!! Today im going to introduce you all one of the greatest University in Hong Kong. 

The University of Hong Kong is a public university located in PokFuLam, founded in 1911 during the British Colonial era. It is the oldest tertiary institution in Hong Kong, originally established in order to compete with other Great Powers that had opened higher learning institutions in China at the beginning of the twentieth century. 

Today, HKU is organised into 10 academic faculties with English as the main language of instruction. It exhibits strength in scholarly research and education of humanities, law, political sciences, and biomedicine.

The University of Hong Kong is basically an open sights, as there is no guardhouse as other univaersity around the world, visitors can visit any time for free to the University of Hong Kong. Just have to keep claim and carry on.

The building is also a statutory historic monuments.

Although the University of Hong Kong is relatively close to the nearest mtr station, but Piggie would suggest a quick ride from Central or Admiralty by bus.

SPD4459 Destination - Sai Wan Pier, Kennedy Town (西環碼頭)

San Wan Pier 西環碼頭

Is it attractive? Have you ever seen the beautiful sunset before?  Today let me introduce a nice place for you, the San Wan Pier. 

It is a Public Cargo Working Area along the coast of Sai Wan on Hong Kong Island. It is a very well known public space among local community in sai wan, the photographic community !

Also there is a corner called "The mirror of the sky(天空之鏡)", do you know why? 

Let's take a look of this photo and you will know what is the reason of being called this name.

Actually there is a large puddle of reflecting the sky. This place becomes a famous place for taking photos. 

However, you can only go there after it rains, otherwise you can't find the puddle ! !

The Sunset

Moreover, the pier becomes a sunset spot. Since there is no any buildings blocked the views, you can enjoy the sunset view of 360 degree ! ! !

Although privately owned, the owner allows 24-hour access without setting any rules.

This area has a great view of the Victoria Harbour, and a nice sunset . People who hang out here usually are the neighbourhood, couples, families, dog lovers and youngsters. They love spending their time here.

SPD4459 Destination - Sai Wan Swimming Shed (西環泳棚)

Let's go to swim before the weather is getting cold ! ! ! :D

Have you ever seen this place before? Lots people came here for taking their masterpiece and upload to the Instagram and Facebook !~ You can google 西環泳棚 and you can see more photos ~



This is Sai Wan Swimming Shed, which is located in Mount Davis. It built in the 70s as there was no any public swimming pools in the past. Therefore, people built a shed that is next to the sea, it is convenient for people to go swimming.
Nowadays, it becomes a popular place for photographers. The swimming shed, beacon and sunset views turned into the characters inside the photos.

It is easy to get there ! You can take Cityroute route 5B and get off at the last bus stop, then you can go to the oppositie of the street and walk down the stairs.

The bathroom and locker 浴室和儲物室

When you go down there, you will there are two blocks of houses in green color. They are the bathroom and lockers for people who go to swim.

Central Market was the past of Guangzhou market. IT built in 1895 and contains 4/F.

However, it  stop functioning in March 2003 and have been restructured.

The Upper Central Market is converted into Central Shopping Gallery (also known as Central Shopping Gallery),

The other part is disabled and the Wai Wai plate, and a footbridge connecting the escalator system and Hang Seng Bank Head Office Building.

Have you even see the movie Echoes of the Rainbow (歲月神偷)? The movie that got the Berlin Film Festival Hong Kong firm award!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This movie choose Wing Lee Street for 
framing.

Bridges Street Market
必列者士街街市

This is Bridges Street Market that is next to Wing Lee Street. It wasbuilt in 1953, which is the first market was bulit in cement in Honh Kong. This is a Bauhaus style(包浩斯風格) historical building that pay attention to the functional and simple look. It is going to revitalized to become the News Expo in 2016.

SPD4459 Destinations - St John's Cathedral (聖約翰座堂)

Hello everybody!! This is Piggie again!  Today we are going to explore one of the classic cathedral in Hong Kong. Time to have a historical lesson with you all!

The St. John's Cathedral (聖約翰座堂), officially The Cathedral Church of St. John the Evangelist is located at 4 Garden Road, Central, which is an Anglican cathedral in Hong Kong. It is the Diocesan cathedral of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island and the focus of the Province of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (香港聖公會). It also the Archbishop of Hong Kong.

From the outside of the building, you can already see the building style of the English Gothic architecture. This style was flourished in England from about 1180 until about 1520. 

As you can see from the pictures below, The design is well known with its pointed arch(lancet) characteristic. Pointed arches were used almost universally, not only in arches of wide span such as those of the nave arcade, but also for doorways and lancet windows.

Meanwhile, the cathedral also held a lot of interesting event such as Cathedral Choir, Evensong Choir and sermons everyday and week. You will definately have a good time and relax you mind in the cathedral .

The cathedral would be a good place to chill in such a busy distrist and after the whole sightseeing day, aspecially for those who were obsessed of classical architecture and religious history.

SPD4459 Destination - Hong Kong Observation Wheel (香港中環摩天輪)

We are going to introduce the new landmark of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel (香港中環摩天輪), which is located at Central Waterfront Promenade (中環海濱長廊). The wheel will be opened for the public and tourists pay to use on October, 2014. When you are travelling on the wheel, you can enjoy the amazing views over the Victoria Harbor (維多利亞港). And, it will be very romantic if you bring your boyfriend/girlfriend to travel the wheel.

The fee of adult is around  HK$100 and the fee of kid is around HK$70. 

The duration is about 15-20 minutes.

Also, The Hong Kong Observation Wheel is near to the Tamar Park (添馬公園). 

The Tamar Park is green everywhere and the most suitable place for you to enjoy the sun, try returning to the picnic taste.

However, the Tamar Park is occupied by the citizens who are seeking the true democracy (真普選). Recently, this issue is named as Umbrella Revolution (雨傘革命) or Color Revolution (顏色革命).

What to do on Friday or Saturday night after work or class? Follow my footprints and let me show you the wild side of Central! Welcome to Lan Kwai Fong(蘭桂坊)!

LKF is a small square of streets in Central. It is now popular expatriate haunt in Hong Kong for drinking, clubbing and dining. LKF is very unique as it managed by The Lan Kwai Fong Association, it is a non-profit making business chamber which groups together over 100 restaurants, bars, clubs, retailers and service providers in Lan Kwai Fong. They aim to promote the unique Lan Kwai Fong culture and charms to locals and the world.

People love to celebrate different festival in LKF as well such as Christmas Eve, Halloween or New Year's Eve. It also will have celebration or carnival periodically, like Beer festival etc.

Last Saturday, I went there with my good friend Piglet!

It is Lan Kwai Fong Carnival!

There were so crowned and atmosphere was really hyper and great!!!! CHEERS!!!

The food tasted so yum!! NOMNOM~

Beer is also a mus-have item here!!

If you wanna experience the nightlife in Hong Kong, Lan Kwai Fong is really a good place to go! You will never feel tired of the celebrations, Food and beverages and passionate people!

king's college

Here comes the Piggie again \ ^(OO)^/ , it's the time to share some special historical building that you can easily find and are worth to visit in the Central and Western District. 

First of all, a government funded secondary school for boys, the King’s College. See how special the outlook the building are.

The main entrance features a circular porch with Ionic pillars. The building was severely damaged during the Japanese Occupation and major reconstruction and expansion was only completed in 1960..

It is constructed in red brick with a north, south and east wing round a square and an open courtyard with a central fountain. 

The central fountain garden is one of the most attractive and beautiful place for leasure and is one of the few place in western district that still keep the tranditional Bristish style.

It may not be at the top of your destination list when you are visiting this district, but trust Piggie, the King's College will not dissapoint you if you take this shot for it, to see this beauty you can take any public transport that pass by...
