Unique architectural design of the old mental hospital and it had 3-storey. After the reconstruction, the Sai Ying Pun Community Complex hall has 9 storeys.There are magnificent granite facades, peripheral features vaulted corridor and thick retaining walls, and covered with Chinese tiles pitched roof. The building have10 original nurse bedrooms, 12 workers' dormitory room, nurse office, laboratory, office and storage facilities required.
For the history, the building was built in 1892 and became the former government public hostel for foreign nurses.
In 1940, East Wing completely constructed.
In 1941, The hostel converted mental hospital. During the the period of vacancy that happened when Japanese was occupying Hong Kong, this hostel was rumored to be used as an execution ground. After the period of vacancy, it became a woman mental hospital.

In 1961, this building was converted to the Castle Peak Hospital Psychiatric Clinic.
In 1971, this building was deprecated.
In 2001, the Hong Kong government decided to dismantle the site and converted into Sai Ying Pun Community Complex. And, the facade of the original building is retained.
