Hey guys, Piggie want to pick you guys to a old building in Central - Western Market (西港城).
Let me talk about its history first. The building was originally the old Western Market (North Block), which was identified by Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) as one of the Declared Monuments in 1990. At present, it is the oldest market building surviving in Hong Kong.
Urban Renewal Authority (URA) (The former Land Development Corporation) converted the market into a centre of traditional traders, arts and crafts in 1991 and renamed it as "the Western Market". Adopting the concept of adaptive-reuse, the building has been added mant different theme restaurant and boutique shops that turning the building and the vicinity into a place for lifestyle shopping and leisure activities.

Western Market has converted into a shopping complex, is an Edwardian-style building featuring shops selling arts and crafts, and fabric merchants who were originally located in the old alleys of Central. Completed in 1906, the impressive building has a red brick exterior with a handsome granite arch over its entrance and attractive 'bandaged' brickwork.

The Red Hong Kong Mail Box |
Near the Western Market, you can find a red Hong Kong Mail Box, it is used in the past Hong Kong and now we cannot usually find in the street. Therefore, it is very valuable, it you visit the Western Market, you should take a photo with the Mail Box!
